Clergy Retirement Officers for the Northern Archdeaconry
As of June 2026, Revd Peter Owen-Jones and Revd Ingrid Owen-Jones have jointly taken on the role of Clergy Retirement Officer for the Northern Archdeaconry.
Brought up in Bournemouth, Revd Peter moved north, was ordained nearly 40 years ago in Derby Diocese, and exercised his ministry in the secular workplace as well as serving in rural parishes. Following Secular Retirement he served in more senior roles such as Area Dean, Diocesan MSE/SSM Officer, Diocesan Selector and Ministry Development Peer Reviewer. He served as a SSAFA Chaplain prior to moving down south.
His ordained ministry overlapped with a career in the Rail Industry as a Chartered Engineer and Senior Executive. Revd Peter holds Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Winchester and considers it a privilege to be serving here.
Originally from Germany, Revd Ingrid began her working life as a banker and before training for the priesthood, she had several years as a language teacher.
When living in Derbyshire, she ran rural and urban parishes, led a team of Pastoral Visitors, and became a Foundation Governor at the Local Primary School.
Along with her husband Peter, Revd Ingrid retired to Medstead in 2019 in East Hampshire to be nearer to their children. She has had Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Winchester for seven years. After a tragic accident in 2024, Revd Ingrid now uses a wheelchair, but is still involved in her church community and continues to enjoy craft work, focusing on silk painting of greetings cards.
Peter and Ingrid were taken completely by surprise when our former Archdeacon of Winchester, Richard Brand, asked them to consider taking on the role, with Bishop Philip suggesting it be a joint appointment. Although they had some reservations, they felt that God was speaking through the senior staff who deemed them suitable for the role, and so they agreed to give it a go.
Peter and Ingrid would greatly appreciate your prayers as they take on the Clergy Retirement Officer role, particularly for them to quickly find their feet, gaining relevant knowledge, experience and wisdom in the months ahead.

Clergy Retirement Officer for the Southern Archdeaconry
As of April 2026, Revd Rosie Ward has taken on the role of Clergy Retirement Officer for the Southern Archdeaconry. She said, “I retired in 2016 after 22 years in ministry, serving in both urban and rural parishes in two different dioceses. I also trained LLMs, and spent 6 years with CPAS, working on leadership development, resourcing women leaders and leading vocations weekends.
“Moving to Winchester Diocese, my husband Malcolm and I were moving to a new area, but we love it, and have been enjoying ‘retirement’. I never intended to put my feet up, just to have more time to follow the passions God had given me, and spend more time with family and friends.
“So I soon found myself leading my church on its Eco Church journey, and involved in preaching, presiding, and other aspects of parish life. I became a Local Vocations Adviser. Having been an editor before ordination and written a couple of books along the way, I’ve done some writing and editing. I sing in a choir, grow fruit and veg, and keep fit by walking.
“And with God there are always new adventures. So I am pleased to take on this role as Clergy Retirement Officer for the Southern Archdeaconry, and look forward to helping clergy prepare for and make the most of the phase of life called ‘retirement’. Retired clergy are important and valued part of our diocesan family, playing many roles including holding PTO, leading occasional offices and playing key advisory roles.

Grants and Gifts for Clergy Widows/Widowers
The diocese will give a grant of £500 to assist with funeral fees to the widow/widower of any member of clergy (SSM, stipendiary or chaplain etc.) who dies whilst resident in the diocese (including those who have never ministered in the diocese. Clergy widows(ers) are also entitled to a £120 gift at Christmas.
