The bishops are delighted to welcome Kester Brewin, Associate Director at the Institute for the Future of Work and a writer on religion and technology, as our guest speaker for this autumn’s Bishops’ Study Day.
‘What kind of selves do we need to be in order to live in harmony with others?’
In a world so apparently exemplified by fracture, across three sessions, we’ll explore Miroslav Volf’s brilliant twisting of the problem: not what can be done to change others into better people, but how we might live and be in order to foster harmony.
We will explore the long history of how technologies have impacted the ways that we communicate and gather, and how we need to respond in this new period of technological and socio-political transformation– both as individuals and communities of faith – to learn how to engage ‘the other’.

More about Kester Brewin:
Kester is Associate Director at the Institute for the Future of Work and a writer on religion and technology. His 2010 book ‘Other: Embracing Difference in a Fractured World’ was highly praised, and his latest work, ‘God-like: a 500-Year History of Artificial Intelligence in Myths, Machines, Monsters’ hailed by Dr Tripp Fuller as ‘the most compelling radical theological text I have read’.
He has twice presented at the UK’s premier TEDx event, has written and presented on BBC Radio 4, and is in demand as an authority on the socio-technical implications of AI on work and society.
